Faith-based Engagement

In Sep­tem­ber 2018, the Los Ange­les Coun­ty Board of Super­vi­sors passed a motion for the Los Ange­les Coun­ty Depart­ment of Chil­dren and Fam­i­ly Ser­vices (DCFS) and The Cen­ter for Strate­gic Part­ner­ships to lead stake­hold­ers in the devel­op­ment of a Coun­ty­wide frame­work for engag­ing the Faith-based com­mu­ni­ty in sup­port of fos­ter youth. DCFS and The Cen­ter for Strate­gic Part­ner­ships is engag­ing faith com­mu­ni­ties, orga­ni­za­tions and church­es to devel­op a plan and infra­struc­ture that will focus on build­ing and sus­tain­ing effec­tive ser­vices, resources, and prac­tices, includ­ing recruit­ment and reten­tion of prospec­tive resource fam­i­lies.  Grace Welt­man of Com­mu­ni­ties in Motion has been engaged to co-lead this process, with a focus on iden­ti­fy­ing promis­ing faith-based approach­es and prac­tices, con­ven­ing stake­hold­ers and work­ing with DCFS as it devel­ops in Faith-based Engage­ment Unit.
